Caused by the circulation of water and steam through a nuclear power plant, piping systems are an important part of the function of nuclear power plants. The average nuclear power plant has more than seven miles of pipe inside where a lot of pipework is needed for construction and maintenance. Due to the constantly high pressures and temperature the conditions in which these pipes must perform are extremely aggressive and hostile for the material. Also many nuclear power stations are situated on the coast and use sea water for cooling which again calls for special piping resistant to the high corrosiveness of saltwater. Therefor the pipes must be made of high-grade steel like stainless steel and nickel alloy pipes. To perform cutting and beveling operations on these piping material angle grinders or flame cutting torches are not recommended.
In practice it has been proved that mechanical cutting of steel pipes and weld preparation of pipe ends influence as well in a high degree the quality of the welding junction, which is crucial for the safety of nuclear power stations. For welding applications of heavy wall pipes and for orbital pipe welding technology the welding engineer requires nowadays a perfect and effective weld preparation in pipe welding process by use of mechanized weld preparation. The DLW pipe cold cutter can machine diameters from 2 inch up to 48 inch outside diameter. Light in weight the machine is driven by pneumatic, electrical or hydraulic motors and controllable by a single operator. The bevel cutting machine has a high metal removal rate, is easy to handle and constructed in a rugged and compact way.
