Details and informations
Fiback Fiberglass Weld Backing Tape is an innovative substitute for traditional back purging methods that provides protection to the backside of the weld environment and ensures a high quality finish. Fiback is flexible, heat resistant, and halogen and fluorocarbon-free, enabling it to be a complete solution for plate, sheet and pipe welding needs.
This welding tape is composed of two adhesive areas around the outside edges with a center fiberglass strip, heat resistant up to 1,022°F (550°C) and withstanding applications up to 600 amps.
Suitable for SMAW (stick), TIG, and MIG Welding processes, Fiback can conform to various shapes making it superior to more rigid solutions that develop stress points between pieces and are prone to cracking and breaking over time.
Fiback reduces set-up, clean up and weld time; eliminates post-weld grinding and back gouging and increases work efficiency while minimizing costs.
Light duty
Sufficient for thinner materials, such as aluminum, carbon steel, chrome steels, cast iron, nickel and cobalt alloys, copper nickel and many more
Often used in general fabrication shops and for manufacturing pressure vessels and aircraft component
Heavy duty
Typically used for denser metals, such as stainless steel, duplex stainless steel and other metals depending on thickness
Often used for projects in the commercial and military ship manufacturing industry
Can be used with automated equipment for more accurate results
Features and Benefits
Flexible
Suitable for stainless, carbon, duplex and chrome steels as well as other metals
Woven fiberglass and malleable aluminum tape easily conform to a number of complex shapes and uneven surfaces
A supportive weld pool is created by forming the tape into a convex shape resulting in an oxygen-free weld bead
Consistent in thickness, Fiback creates a continuous bead, ideal for lengthy applications
High Quality & Safe Components
Halogen and chlorofluorocarbon free, creating a safe work environment
Fiberglass formulation is also free of mercury, antimony, fluoride, bromide, phosphorous, sulfur, and lead
Virgin aluminum foil coated with free acrylic base adhesive
Tightly and finely woven, unadulterated fiberglass
Compatibility & Process Applications
Suitable for SMAW (stick), TIG and MIG welding processes
Ideal for welding sheet-to-sheet, plate-to-plate, pressure vessels, large diameter pipes and tanks, longitudinal and circumferential seams and anywhere that a back purging is not possible or very costly with gas
Increases Efficiency and Savings
Eliminates the need for back purging, increasing weld productivity and reducing labor costs
Saves gas as well as down time, allowing the user to bypass filling large structures; such as pressure vessels and bore pipes; with argon
Significantly reduces post-weld clean up time by eliminating gouging & grinding
Perfectly compatible with orbital welding machines
EZ Zone tape is the perfect, innovative solution for preventing weld seam contamination by sealing the root gap between two pipes and retaining the argon gas. The tape consists of two adhesive-coated aluminum strips on the outer edges and an adhesive-free area in the middle.

Application EZ Zone Welding Tape
Details and informations
Due to its unique construction, the edges of the aluminum tape adhere to both sides of the root gap of stainless steel and aluminum pipes, while the adhesive-free area is placed directly over the gap. The adhesive never comes into contact with the weld area during welding, resulting in a clean, contamination-free weld seam.
The EZ Zone adhesive tape is free of halogens and fluorocarbons, and consists of aluminum foil with a thickness of 74 micrometers, which adapts optimally to irregular surfaces and is heat-resistant up to 260 °C.
With the EZ Zone tape, the welder can effectively prevent contamination in the weld pool and thus produce more defect-free welds. This advantage made the adhesive tape the standard in the atomic energy sector, the chemical industry, in conventional power plants and in aviation within a very short time.
Features and Benefits
Contaminant Free Weld
EZ Zone Tape eliminates the worry of adhesive contaminating the weld area when sealing the root gap between pipes because it is composed of two outside adhesive sections, separated by an adhesive-free center “zone”
Only the adhesive-free “zone” is placed over the weld, therefore the adhesive never comes in contact with the pipe as it is welded; creating a clean, contaminant-free weld
The “Zone” acts as a centering guide, making correct placement of tape and ensuring no adhesive contamination
Reduces pipe clean-up time and avoids costly x-rays
Flexible & Heat Resistant
Malleable aluminum tape easily conform to a number of complex shapes and uneven surfaces including stainless steel and aluminum pipes
Pressure-sensitive adhesive makes for easy application
Adhesive portion of aluminum tape withstands temperatures up to 500°F (260°C)
Aluminum foil portion of tape withstands temperatures up to 1100°F (593°C)
High Quality and Safe Components
EZ Zone Tape is free of halogens including fluoride, chloride and bromide as well as chlorofluorocarbon, increasingly important in today’s highly regulated safety environment
EZ Tape is a traditional, fully coated aluminum tape that can be used to seal root gaps by controlling the release of gas during purging and to seal pipe ends for transporting.
